I’ve been neglecting the blog recently, but I have a good excuse – I’ve been riding my bikes. Last week I rode out to Concord to support the 350.org climate change rally. It was a spur of the moment decision and I almost stayed at home because rain was threatening, but it would have been ironic to let a little drizzle stop me, so I set out on the Minuteman Bicycle path. I hooked up with more riders in Lexington and we rode on together. By the time we reached the Old North Bridge in Concord the rain as heavy and I was glad of the Stowaway jacket and an old shower cap I use to keep my head dry.
I always have mixed feelings when I visit the site where the Revolutionary War began as being born in Britain I also think of the Red Coats. So I stopped at the small grave of some British soldiers just before the Old North Bridge and just thought about them for a few moments. The rally was across the bridge on top of a small rise and I pushed my bike up the hill and I propped it against a tree. Standing back it occurred to me that the Quickbeam goes very well with the autumn as it’s orange frame merged with the fall leaves. There was a good crowd and I stopped for a while to sign the petitions and listen to various local politicians and activists make speeches. But it was well past lunch time and I left the rally early to get some food and warm up a bit in a local cafe.
