About this Blog
The Wheels of Chance blog is a compendium of my bicycle related thoughts and experiences. I rode a bike when I was a child, but stopped after I graduated college. As I grew into my comfortable and increasingly rotund 40s, I decided to start cycling again to loose some weight. I’ve reduced my waistline, but more than that I’ve rediscovered the freedom that can be found on a bicycle.
The blog’s title is taken from the “The Wheels of Chance” written by H.G. Wells. The book explores how the bicycle changed English society at the end of the nineteenth century. It does this by following the adventures of a lower middle class man and an upper class woman who meet while bicycle touring. It nicely captures the sense of freedom and possibility that bicycle touring gives me so it’s fitting that I borrow the title for my blog.
Meet Stan
I’m Clive Standley (known to my friends as Stan). I work as an optical engineer, like bicycles, the theater and the cinema. Any gear that I review will have been bought with my own dollar and the opinions will also be completely my own.

Like the site; there’s some very useful touring stuff going up, which I’m watching for tips.

Thanks, I’ll be posting something on my approach to gearing soon and a review of the Carradice Expedition bagman
Do you have an email address I can contact you on?
I’d rather do stuff over the blog
